Billboard Cost & OOH CPM Calculator
This calculator estimates billboard and out-of-home advertising costs and CPMs using weekly impressions from traffic count data and demographic adjustment factors. It is built for media planners, OOH buyers, and brand managers evaluating whether billboard placements are competitively priced relative to their audience delivery. The tool applies Geopath-aligned methodology to convert traffic count data into target audience impressions, giving you a consistent basis for comparing OOH CPMs to other media.

Frequently asked questions
How much does billboard advertising cost?
Billboard costs vary significantly by market size, location quality, and format. In smaller markets, a standard 14-by-48-foot bulletin might cost $500 to $2,000 per four-week period. In mid-size markets, costs typically range from $2,000 to $10,000. Premium locations in major metro markets such as New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago can run $20,000 to $100,000 or more per four-week period. Digital billboard placements are often priced on shorter terms and share of loop, which affects CPM calculations.
How is OOH CPM calculated?
OOH CPM is calculated using the Daily Effective Circulation for a location, which represents the estimated number of persons who have a reasonable opportunity to see a display on a given day. This figure is typically sourced from Geopath audience measurement data in the US. The daily circulation is multiplied by the posting period (usually 28 days) and divided by 1,000, then divided into the total media cost, to produce a CPM. Because OOH CPM methodology differs from digital CPM methodology, direct comparisons require adjustment.
How do I compare billboard CPM to digital advertising CPM?
A direct numeric comparison between OOH CPM and digital CPM understates OOH's value because OOH impressions are generated passively in public space, often reaching people outside of an ad-blocking or banner-blindness context. Research published by the Outdoor Advertising Association suggests multiplying OOH CPMs by a factor of 1.5 to 2.5 to adjust for engagement quality differences when comparing to digital display advertising. Digital video and CTV CPMs are more directly comparable to OOH on an engagement-adjusted basis.
